Buy Chestnuts

Please visit our new website to purchase Fresh Chestnuts!   http://www.birddogchestnuts.com

You are more than welcome to pick up your nuts and avoid the postage if you live nearby.  We do not live on the farm but we do live and work in the Statesboro area of Georgia (SE) so if you order ahead of time we can work out a meeting point.  If you would like to pick your own (at your own risk) you are welcome to make an appointment during the month of September on the weekend and you can pick up all you want for a discount.  Just use the email Kellogg1968@yahoo.com and put chestnuts in the title.  I will get back to you asap.  If you want a very large order, email me and we can work something out.

Read this before you place your order:

Refrigerate your chestnuts as soon as you receive them. You can keep them in the mesh bags if you plan to use them within a week or two, otherwise we recommend that you put them in a plastic zip-lock type bag and perforate it so the moisture does not built up and make a good environment for mold. If some mold does form on the surface of the nuts it can be washed off. Chestnuts need to stay cold and kept from drying out. I have successfully kept nuts in the refrigerator and used them for Thanksgiving and even Christmas. Any still lurking in the back of the fridge in the spring have even been planted and germinated! You can sweeten up the nuts by letting them sit out on your counter for a couple days at room temperature to “cure” so that some of the carbohydrates turn to sugars. Don’t leave them out too long or they will dry out. These nuts are harvested daily throughout September and early October and have been washed and checked for floaters (bad or too dry nuts) so you are receiving only the freshest nuts. We ship on Monday only so your nuts will not languish at a post office on a weekend.
